TTE485 5354 VAG IS20 UPGRADE TURBOCHARGER

The TTE485 is our latest hybrid performance turbocharger, developed from the original IHI Hitachi IS20 unit used in 3rd-generation VAG 2.0 TSI engines, including the VW Golf 7 GTI and similar platforms. Designed to deliver power comparable to an IS38 hybrid while retaining excellent spool characteristics and throttle response, the TTE485 is engineered to be one of the highest-performing sub-500 HP IS20 hybrid upgrades currently available.

Engineered Enhancement – EA888 Gen 3 IS20 Platform

To build the TTE485, we replace the factory compressor with a significantly larger, high-efficiency billet wheel featuring extended-tip technology. The compressor cover is precision-machined to achieve optimal clearance for the upgraded wheel profile.

On the turbine side, the original IS20 turbine is removed and the housing is CNC-machined to accept a larger, lightweight 9-blade turbine, increasing exhaust gas flow. The standard thrust bearing is also replaced with our in-house manufactured TTE 360° upgraded bearing for enhanced durability and reliability under high load.

CNC Silencer Delete Modification

Each unit is equipped with our CNC-machined silencer delete. This process modifies the turbo discharge silencer by removing internal baffles and installing a straight-through section. The result is reduced restriction, improved airflow efficiency, and a more pronounced turbo sound profile.

Advanced 9-Blade Turbine Design

The proprietary TTE 9-blade turbine is specifically engineered for superior performance. Key advantages include:

Its lightweight construction minimizes rotational inertia, enabling faster spool-up and improved responsiveness for its size class.

Precision Balancing & Quality Assurance

Accurate balancing is essential to both performance and longevity. Every TTE turbocharger undergoes a meticulous multi-stage balancing process:

  1. Individual components are balanced at low speeds up to 2,800 RPM across multiple planes.

  2. After assembly, the CHRA is dynamically balanced at speeds up to 250,000 RPM using our in-house VSR machine.

This process achieves balance tolerances exceeding OEM standards, improving durability, smooth operation, and acoustic refinement. Each turbocharger is supplied with a serial-numbered balance test certificate verifying its performance specification.
