TTE550 5654 BMW N55 UPGRADE TURBOCHARGER

The TTE550 is a high-performance turbocharger upgrade engineered specifically for the BMW N55 engine platform. Retaining the original turbocharger housing, this upgrade focuses on precision-engineered internal enhancements to deliver significantly increased power and efficiency while maintaining excellent drivability.

Advanced Compressor Technology

The factory compressor wheel is replaced with a TTE CNC-milled billet aluminum compressor wheel featuring advanced 7+7 blade geometry. This state-of-the-art design improves airflow efficiency, increases charge density, and supports substantially higher power output throughout the rev range.

High-Flow Lightweight Turbine

On the turbine side, the original exhaust turbine is upgraded to a substantially larger yet lightweight 9-blade TTE-designed turbine. This configuration reduces exhaust gas backpressure, enhancing engine breathing and overall performance while preserving fast spool response and strong mid-range torque.

Motorsport-Grade Bearing System

To ensure durability under increased performance demands, the turbocharger is equipped with a TTE Motorsport upgraded bearing system. This enhanced bearing pack is designed to provide superior reliability, improved load handling, and long-term operational stability under high boost conditions.

Precision Balancing & Quality Control

Precision balancing is a critical element of every TTE turbocharger upgrade, as both performance and longevity depend on it. Proper balancing also contributes to improved acoustic refinement.

Each turbocharger undergoes a meticulous multi-stage balancing process:

  • Individual components are initially balanced at low speeds up to 2,800 RPM across multiple planes using specialized single-part balancing equipment.

  • Once assembled, the CHRA (Center Housing Rotating Assembly) is dynamically balanced at application-specific speeds of up to 250,000 RPM using TTE’s in-house VSR (Vibration Sorting Rig) machine.

This process achieves equilibrium standards that exceed OEM specifications. Every unit is supplied with a serial-numbered balance test result document for complete traceability and quality assurance.

If you are sending a used turbocharger for the upgrade process, please note that TTE does not test or recondition the electronic actuator provided. The original actuator you supply will be reinstalled onto the upgraded unit.
